National Burglary Campaign
The Home Office in February launched a National burglary campaign after suggestions had been mooted that crime might rise in the current economic downturn. This is not inevitable and the Government are determined to stay on the front foot in crime prevention.
This burglary campaign is offering help and encouragement to people to look at their home security and to coincide with this they have launched a new website with practical home security advice which includes a self-assessment tool to help people grade their home security. The new website is entitled Secure Your Home
The British Crime Survey suggests that 36% of burglaries happen through unlocked, or open doors or windows, so the Home Secretary will be launching a burglary prevention public campaign to ensure that people are vigilant and taking the simple steps needed to stay safe. This will draw on effective materials from the “Lets Keep Crime down” campaign and started on National TV radio and in national and regions press during February 2009.
