Welcome to the Eastern Division

New Crime Prevention Service for Eastern Division
Pac-van.

From 1st April crime prevention visits to victims of domestic burglaries have been undertaken by staff employed by the 3 local housing associations----Twin Valley Homes for Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn Homes for Hyndburn and St. Vincents for the Ribble Valley. All of the staff are experienced joiners and have been trained in the basics of crime prevention by the local crime prevention officers.

They will undertake to survey the victims' home, as any crime prevention officer would but, and here's the vast improvement to the service, they will be able to fit any target hardening measures that are appropriate. So, for example, they will fit door and window locks( where appropriate ) and hand out property marking UV pens. They will be able to advise on fencing, gates, height of planting and lighting etc. They will not be able to do any electrical work( so they can't fit security lights, but can advise on their use ) and they won't repair doors or windows that would ordinarily be repaired under an insurance policy or tenancy agreement. This new service has been funded through all the Housing Associations in the area and is open to all burglary victims regardless of whether they live in private or housing association property.

The scheme is also supported by Victim Support and The Fire Service and local Officers are able to refer other individuals who may be classed as vulnerable members of the community, for example victims of domestic violence where the (ex)partner does not now live in the matrimonial home and potential victims of bogus callers The service is also free for these groups .
